evolution-kolab has moved to GNOME.org

Development for evolution-kolab takes place directly at GNOME.org since 2011-11-11. The GNOME wiki contains the new primary website. The bugtracker and the mailing list have also moved there. For development tasks (code, bug reports and mailing list), please refer to this new site exclusively.

The infrastructure at SourceForge will be kept in place for documentation and supplemental files for evolution-kolab targeting Evolution 2.30 and for Maemo 5 devices (Nokia N900) accessing Kolab servers. evolution-kolab versions for Evolution 3.x and above are hosted solely at GNOME.org.

About evolution-kolab

evolution-kolab is a project to provide connectivity to Kolab groupware servers for Evolution.
Evolution is the GNOME groupware application that provides mail, calendaring and addressbook functionality.
Kolab is a groupware solution for e-mails, appointments, contacts and more.

Requirements for evolution-kolab 0.30.x:

  • Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx"
Manually building and installing binaries for Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" works.
Any packaging effort for Debian and other Linux / UNIX distributions is appreciated.
  • Evolution 2.30.3
The original version shipped with Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" (2.28) needs to be replaced, see below.
  • libcurl3 7.19.7 with NSS support
NSS support for libcurl3 is originally missing in Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" and Debian 6.0 "Squeeze", see below.
  • Kolab 2 server
Testing was conducted mainly with Kolab 2.2.4, but any Kolab 2 server should work.

Documentation for 0.30.x

Get the evolution-kolab user manual (contains detailed instructions for installation, setup and troubleshooting) in the project's "Files"-section, which also holds some additional guidance and supplemental files as well as the source distribution tarballs.

Installation of 0.30.x

Currently, packages for evolution-kolab are available for Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" only. The original Evolution version shipped with Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" (2.28) needs to be replaced with version 2.30 from Jacob Zimmermann's evo230-PPA (see below). Furthermore, we have packaged our own version of libcurl to provide for libcurl3 NSS support, which Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" does not contain (recent releases of Ubuntu and Debian do, however).
For the command-line savvy, a quick way for installing evolution-kolab is to append the following two lines to a newly created file under /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ (the file name can be chosen arbitrarily, but must end in .list):

	deb http://evolution-kolab.sourceforge.net/ubuntu lucid main
	deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/jacob/evo230/ubuntu lucid main

Then issue the following commands to update the packages information and install evolution-kolab:

	sudo apt-get update
	sudo apt-get install evolution-kolab

If Evolution is not installed yet, or if the original Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" version (2.28) is installed, it will be installed/updated from the evo230-PPA alongside evolution-kolab.

evolution-kolab internal API documentation is included in the distribution tarball. It is also packaged in the evolution-kolab development package for easy installation via the package archive:

	sudo apt-get install evolution-kolab-dev

For easy installation by graphical means only, instructions how to setup Evolution for the use with Kolab, alternative ways of installing evolution-kolab, as well as background information and troubleshooting guides, please consult evolution-kolab's user manual.

Notes for building and installing evolution-kolab binaries manually from the source for Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" and Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" can be obtained from evolution-kolab's Git SCM-repository.
